What's so great about Candler Park?
Candler Park is my home and my favorite neighborhood in the City. Why? Here's my Letterman List counting down the Top Ten Reasons why Candler Park is Atlanta's best intown neighborhood:

#10:
The Candler Park Market has about the best selection of wine in the City!

#9:
Cheap golf at Candler Park's 9 hole public course.

#8:
You can walk to the Candler Park MARTA rail station and "train it" to sports venues, concerts, shopping all over the city, and Hartsfield-Jackson airport!

#7:
Little Five Points, Atlanta's answer to Greenwich Village, lies on our western border. L5P features funky shops, great eats, and colorful parades!

#6:
We have an active neighborhood organization that, among other things, puts on a super groovy tour of homes and a fabulous FallFest each year.

#5:
We have Candler Park, Goldsboro Park, Iverson Park, Freedom Park, and The Path!

#4:
Our McLendon Avenue business district is the coolest in the city, with everything from a belly dancing studio to Doctor Bombay's Underwater Tea Party (read a book while eating ice cream!).

#3:
We have the best original Craftsman architecture in the city -- our bungalows are exquisite.

#2:
We're only 5 minutes from Midtown, Downtown, Virginia-Highland, Emory and Decatur!

#1:
Candler Park residents are simply the best people you will ever meet. The people are truly the heart of this neighborhood.

City of Decatur

Decatur is like a small town but it's only minutes from the heart of Downtown Atlanta. "Quaint" and "charming" fit this wonderful community that centers around an old courthouse square. Downtown Decatur is pedestrian accessible and offers excellent shopping, restaurants, and urban living as well as great parks, great city services, and lots of community events. Imagine Mayberry just 10 minutes from Manhattan!

Druid Hills

This is the neighborhood that borders Emory University. It has long been considered one of the finest neighborhoods in the City and has gorgeous high-style homes, many of which command prices well in excess of $1 million. This neighborhood was laid out by Frederick Law Olmsted and every street feels like an elegant park. Though beautiful to look at, it is a treat to explore this neighborhood on foot and find the many footpaths connecting the green spaces.

Emory Area

There are a number of smaller neighborhoods in the Emory area that offer affordable homes, excellent schools, and a great location. Many of these were developed in the 1960s and feature mid-century architecture. Victoria Estates, Clairmont Heights, Johnson Estates, and Briar Vista Terrace are excellent areas for families and individuals who want the convenience of an Emory location without the price of a Druid Hills address.

Lake Claire

Clifton Road separates Lake Claire from Candler Park -- Candler Park lies to the west of Clifton and Lake Claire to the east. Lake Claire shares a lot in common with Candler Park (including easy access to the parks and business district within Candler Park) but it has a personality all its own and a strong sense of community. Quieter than Candler Park because there are no businesses along McLendon Avenue where it cuts through Lake Claire, this neighborhood has a tranquil vibe. You can get a sense of the neighborhood by visiting the Lake Claire Community Land Trust, a private reserve that the owners graciously open to the neighborhood, which features such amenities as a sweat lodge and hosts a regular drum circle and tree-climbing club.

Midtown

Midtown is vibrant and active and full of life. It has tons of great restaurants, is home to Piedmont Park (Atlanta's biggest), and is home to most of the city's major arts venues including the Woodruff Arts Center, the High Museum, the Fox Theatre, and the planned new Symphony Hall. It has an extremely diverse selection of housing -- from super sleek studio condos with world class amenities and killer views to grand historic mansions originally built for the City's elite at the turn of the 20th century.

Morningside

Morningside was developed as a residential neighborhood in the early part of the 20th century and features primarily brick Tudor bungalows. It's a very charming neighborhood and has a number of parks sprinkled throughout. Morningside Elementary is the public school that children throughout many of the intown neighborhoods attend. It is an excellent school and many kids in the neighborhood enjoy walking to and from school each day with one of their parents.

Virginia-Highland

Virginia-Highland is one of the city's best known intown neighborhoods. It has an excellent business district that stretches along North Highland Avenue and offers quaint boutiques, upscale eateries, spas and salons, and a wide range of other businesses. The predominant architectural style in Virginia-Highland is also the bungalow, most of which have been renovated and many have been expanded over the years.
